three and one half common demons

These are 3 demons that I think everyone comes  into contact with in someways
even if they are only trying to avoid them.   They are:

1. poverty
2. hunger
3. addiction

and the 1/2 would be rum - because it's often referred to as " demon " rum.

Of all the " common " demons I would have to say that poverty is the one that
really stands out - because it most likely has the biggest affect.  Most everyone
is afraid, even " rich " people that in a moment they could become poor.
However, I'm not sure if being rich is not somehow a demonic situation.
I would say that those who are " in the middle " economically are the
most fearful of being ravaged by this demon.

Mostly, poor people are " born " poor and I would suspect that at least for
a certain amount of time they could be unaware that they are in fact poor,
but very soon society will make them aware of it in one way or another.
But one of the interesting things about being poor for many people is
that they are not sure how they got there.  One day they might find
themselves in the midst of moderate or even significant wealth and
the next - they are unable to put two nickles side by side.

At this point I should mention one of the common - what I believe to be
dogmas, which is that poor people are poor because they are lazy.  It's
an interesting one alright, because it doesn't take much reflection at all
for educated people to be aware that - it is in fact " poor " people that
do most of the work that gets done in this world.  Richer people in fact
shelter themselves from this "common work" that is given to poor people
by one method or another.

Moving on to hunger, I guess you could say - it is common but also connected
to poverty - and certainly one of the worst demons because for those who are
susceptible to it - it becomes very hard to avoid.

And finally addiction.  I don't really think addiction is a demon - but more the effect
that a variety of demons might have on a particular individual.

Finally, rum - I'm not going to say a thing about it.
